A Note from Mrs.
LaPorte
Welcome to the 2012/2013 school year. I hope you
have had a restful summer and that your child is ready to be back at
school!
Please take a moment to read the information I
have included in this note!
* Supplies are being provided for your child but I am
asking that you consider donating some items off of the attached wish list.
These are all things that we use and need frequently throughout the
year.
* We will have 2 classes of Gym and Music each week as
well as a class for Art. I also make sure the children use the computer lab on a
weekly basis.
* Book Bags are a necessity! Your child definitely needs
one. Please double check the bags on a nightly basis for notes or important
papers that will come home!
* We will have a snack time each day. Your child will be
responsible for bringing in their own snack if they want to participate. They may also keep a water bottle at
their desk. I will not be passing out snacks to children that do not have
one.
* Please let me know if your child has any special needs,
allergies and etc. I want to make sure that I am creating the best environment
for them while they are at school.
* You can expect homework to come each Friday. It will
consist of the reading story of the week, the spelling list and a page or two
of math, handwriting or social studies. Please take the time to have your child
read their story and practice their spelling list on a nightly
basis.
* Remember to call the office if your child is ill. This
is very important so that your child receives an excused
absence.
* You can expect updates and parent notes to come home
weekly from me. My goal is to keep communication clear and open in regards to
your child’s school progress and activities. Please feel free to contact me
with any questions or concerns.
* If you are interested in helping out in the classroom,
please contact me. I have several activities that extra help is needed with. I
am flexible and willing to work around your schedule whenever
possible!
* Your child will be taking the MEAP testing October.
Specific dates will be coming home in the future for testing days. Your child’s
attendance at school is critical on those days.
OVER->
*A quick
way to reach me is by email at [email protected].
Please remember that I am teaching during the day so emails will be
returned in the evening or late afternoon!
* Your
child will have Mrs. Schmid for Science this year so they will be switching
classes several times a week for this subject. She and I have worked together
for several years and this had been a positive experience for all.
I will be teaching Social
Studies to her class while
your child is with her for Science.
* Positive classroom behavior is important for
optimum learning to take place. I expect each child to follow classroom/school
rules and procedures. Your child will receive positive phone calls and notes
home for their good behavior. Lunch with me, special privileges and incentives
will also be given for following classroom rules. You will receive a call from
me if your child is having difficulty with following expectations. I will ask
for your support in helping devise a plan to help your child improve. I strongly feel that the other children
in the classroom should not have their learning interrupted by another child’s
poor behavior. If necessary, your child will be sent out of the room to the
office or another classroom. Time will be given so that they may compose
themselves to be able to return to the
classroom.
I follow a red, yellow, green system in the
classroom for management. Everyone starts out each day on green. Positive
reinforcements are given to the children throughout the day to help keep them on
track. Three warnings given to a child will be place them on yellow. They will be given a reflection paper to
fill out that asks them to explain why they are on yellow and what they can do
to improve for the rest of the day. If a fourth warning is given they are moved
to red. You will be notified if your child reaches red. Other actions may also
take place depending on the severity of the situation. Those actions can include
an office referral or a time out in another classroom. (I try not to keep
children in at recess time for poor behavior. They need that break and that is
sometimes enough to turn behavior around in a more positive direction.)
I am looking forward to working with you and your
child. I will strive to help your child have a productive and positive learning
experience this school year.
